Ezra Speaks: a rustic chronicle
Ezra comments extensively on the weather, the changing seasons, his wife’s behavior, his family’s dynamic, hot-button issues particular to rural Vermont, and mortality. He's a good story teller, but not the most reliable narrator. He is opinionated, contankerous, and susceptible to conspiracy theories. Some may find him charming. Others may find him offensive. Some may find him both.

Episode Eleven - Bats and Vaccine
Janine is away for the night, looking after the grandchildren, so Ezra has a couple of extra beers, and states his anti-vax position in no uncertain terms.
Author's Note: In the note attached to Episode Ten I made it sound like reconciliation among our country's warring social and political factions was my ultimate objective for this project. Maybe...ultimately...but there's no denying that my satirical tendencies have come along for the ride.
Episode Eleven: Bats and Vaccine
Ezra: Okay…I’ve been, I’ve been puttin’ this off long enough. So here you are: no, I am not vaccinated. I am not vac-ci-nated, so stop askin’ me. Every day, it seems like somebody says, well, how can you do that, how can you not take the vaccine? So here’s my answer, and then I would just really like to stop talkin’ about this, okay?
Okay, so…uh, you know about bats, right, how they’re, they’re, uh, they’re sticky, uh…so at night sometimes, they uh, they get into the house, so I take the precaution, when I sleep, I make sure that my, my arms and hands are under the covers or the pillows, right, so that if, if the bat flies in, into the bedroom, it can’t make contact with my hands. So I’ve got my hands to protect myself. If the bat attacks me, I have my hands. The bat can’t attack my hands, and stick my hands together, and then I’m, what, I’m done. Right? Well, that’s the way it is with the vaccine. You let them put that vaccine into you…you don’t have your hands, you don’t have your hands. They’ve chipped ya’, or whatever, you know…stuck you with somethin’ that they can use to track you with, maybe even control your, your thought proc --- how ya’ gonna defend yourself from that? You’re done. Bat’s got ya’.
[Belch] It’s a mindset thing. There’s people runnin’ around here, all hysterical, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, give me, give me the vaccine. [Belch!] I don’t give into that, that hysteria. I don’t give into that, I stay calm, I stay cool. I, I say, okay…all right, what’s the best way for me to protect my --- it’s not, it’s not to put a vaccine into me, that’s, that’s takin’ a huge chance. [Beat.] I’m the one controllin’ the odds here. I’m the one keepin’ control here, and that’s my mindset…se
